There’s always an opportunity to learn about and experience other cultures away from their native lands. On Saturday, May 10, 2014, the European Delegation hosted its annual Embassies’ Open House in Washington, DC.
The European Union (EU) Open House commemorates the formation of the European Union with its first members joining in 1952, in the aftermath of World War II. The EU is an economic and political partnership among 28 European countries. A list of the European member states can be found here.
All 28 members of the European Union opened its embassy doors to the general public to showcase their work environment and give us a taste, sometimes literally, of their culture.
Being a fan of travel, I took this opportunity to visit as many embassies as I could in the 6-hour day. But, I quickly learned that seeing all 28 embassies could not be done. So, next year awaits….
If you’re interested in attending the next EU Open House, it’s held every Spring on the Saturday closet to Europe Day (May 9th).
And, if you want to learn more about this experience, please head over to the EU website at www.EUOpenHouse.org. You’ll find lots of wonderful information about this year’s event (and events to come).
In the meantime, below are some photos that I took on this fabulous journey to Europe. I was able to “visit” 8 countries! Also, feel free to search #EUselfie or #EUopenhouse in Twitter… I made a few guest appearances!
